Dodgers Come From Behind; Even Series With Padres

It was looking bleak early in the game, the Dodgers didn’t have a hit through five plus innings. I was ready to remove the panic button from my desk, open the case and smash it. The Dodgers needed to win this game, they were in danger of falling multiple games out of first place in the NL West. The Dodgers were trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Dustin May was pitching well for the Dodgers, carving up the Padres hitters but did allow a home run and double down the line that resulted in two runs. Aside from that, May was showcasing his 95 plus MPH cutter that was baffling the Padres lineup for the most part.

The Dodgers finally responded and tied the game on a Corey Seager base hit that scored two runs. Later in the game the Dodgers brought A.J. Pollock off the bench to hit for the struggling Joc Pederson, Pollock delivered the go-ahead RBI double and followed that up with a solo shot to give the Dodgers an insurance run in the ninth inning. Pollock has been the most pleasant surprise for the Dodgers who captured their eighth win of the season and now sit one game behind the Colorado Rockies for first place in the NL West. Without Pollock and Seager the Dodgers would be struggling far worse than what their 8-4 record currently indicates Those two guys were the definition of disappointing in the 2019 playoff series against the Nationals, perhaps this is the motivation that was needed to return Seager and Pollock to the form that the Dodgers expected.

The season has been frustrating thus far, the Dodgers have struggled more than what we were expecting but they are still playing without Mookie Betts full-time and have limited innings for Kershaw and Buehler. The bright spot of this season has been Dustin May, he is proving that he deserves to be in the rotation and is looking to be the side-kick for Walker Buehler over the next several years. Cody Bellinger is starting to look more comfortable at the plate and he delivered a big two-out hit to keep the inning alive, this gave the Dodgers the chance to tie the game, in which they executed.

Every win the Dodgers have, I try to convince myself that this is going to be the game that will propel them to a big winning streak. That is exactly what the Dodgers need right now, a five-six game win streak and help them get on the right track and slowly start to distant themselves from the NL West contenders, the Padres and Rockies. Dodgers Manager, Dave Roberts expects Betts to be able to hit tonight, he has been used as a defensive replacement late in the game the last couple of nights but hopefully Betts will return to the leadoff spot tonight.

Ross Stripling who has won two games already this season will take the ball for the Dodgers in the rubber match of this series, Stripling has been incredible on the bump so far this year for the boys in blue and tonight is a game that the Dodgers need to have. The bullpen returned to form, Treinen and Jansen were dominant late in the game and that was a welcomed vision for the Dodgers and their fans following the bullpen performance on Monday night.

Big game tonight, can’t wait. RANDY!!! HIT THE MUSIC!
