Today Was Supposed To Be Opening Day

I couldn’t sleep all night, I woke up about three or four times dreaming of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. I’m sure it is not healthy to be that consumed with a team or a sport but that’s who I am, thats who I have become, unapologetically. My uncle texted me at 6AM, with a simple message, “Opening Day 😦 ” it resonated so deeply with me, it became real, there would be no baseball today.

Opening Day is one of the best days of the year, it brings me back to my childhood, in retrospect my parents were super cool, every opening day they would let me leave school early and watch all the afternoon games with my uncle. It was a tradition that I looked forward to all year long, I would hammer subs, gatorade, cheese dip, sometimes puke my brains our from over-eating, it was the best. The smell of spring would finally fill my nostrils after another brutal New York winter, it symbolized a fresh start a new beginning, the Dodgers would have a chance to be World Series champions.

I became a Dodgers fan when I was fourteen years old, every year since then, regardless of what you think of the team, on opening day, I convince myself that we will be winning our first championship since 1988. I am sure every single fan does this with their respected teams, that’s the beauty of opening day, we are all robbed of that today.

I really hope that we get a baseball season this year, if we don’t I am going to be in a major depression. As much as we all want to leave our houses and get back to normal life, we have to suck it up, shelter in place, kill this virus and get back to life as soon as possible. For the sake of sports but most importantly, so we can have that opening day feeling, even if it is a little bit later than we are normally used to.

I am just a writer of simple blogs, I don’t know how to make you feel better about not having opening day but I figured I would give you my top five baseball movies to stream or order while you are shacked up in quarantine.
