Memory Lane: Divisional Playoffs

If you are getting ready for a football packed weekend and need something to throw on while you are cooking up your snacks or are sick of the traditional pre game shows, I’ve got you covered. I went through and tried to recall as many great divisional playoff games in my lifetime (the year of our lord 1992). Check it out:

The 2005 AFC Divisional Playoffs
Steelers 21- Colts 18

Big Ben vs Peyton in the old RCA dome, nothing like it. The crowd was juiced but the Steelers were able to get up early and take the lead. Peyton battled back and put his team in position to tie the game and force OT. Mike Vanderjagt missed the game tying field and the Steelers would go on to win the Super Bowl.

2007 NFC Divisional Playoffs
Giants 21 – Cowboys 17

The Giants and their pass rush went into Jerry World and upset the #1 seed Cowboys. Romo had a chance to win the game late and was intercepted by R.W. McQuarters in the end zone. The Giants would go on and pull off the greatest playoff run in history by beating the undefeated New England Patriots and capturing the franchises third Super Bowl Championship.

2003 AFC Divisional Playoffs
Patriots 17 – Titans 14

A defensive struggle in Foxboro. Air McNair vs Tom Brady, what a matchup. McNair had a late chance to tie the game and heaved an off balance throw downfield that went in and out of the hands of the would be receiver. If it was caught, Tennessee would have had a chance to win or tie the game from the 15 yard line with ample time. The Patriots would go onto to win their second Super Bowl, defeating the Panthers 32-29.

2016 NFC Divisional Playoffs
Packers 34 – Cowboys 31

One of the greatest football games I ever watched. The Packers took a commanding 21-3 lead but the Cowboys came storming back behind the arm of Dak Prescott. On the final drive, Aaron Rodgers delivered an unreal throw and Jared Cook made a sensational grab by keeping his feet in bounds. The 51 yard field goal was good as time expired, sending the Packers to the NFC Championship game.

2014 NFC Divisional Playoffs
Packers 26 – Cowboys 21

Two years earlier. Packers vs Cowboys. All that needs to be said here is … Dez Bryant, was it a catch?

Well there ya have it folks, some phenomenal Divisional Round action to get you ready. I could have come up with 20 more games but those were some that have always stuck in my mind. Have a football filled weekend!
